Our Students are a “Hit” at the Round Rock Express’s Opening Day Festivities.
“Four shows in three days is something we’ve never done before,” said Drum Coach Ed Francis of Round Rock Drums.
The kids performed at two separate locations, the ball park’s main entrance and on their Round Rock replica at the back entrance. While the students played their hearts out, the Drum Coach ran his heart rate up by running back and forth to both inspire and perform.
As people came to enjoy a baseball game they were greeted with group performances, drum solos, duets and cheers from an enthusiastic crowd. And many of our students were performing for the very first time!
While all the drumming was happening at both ends of the park our Events Coordinator, Kim Francis, couldn’t help but take notice of all the kids wildly dancing to the beats.
And the next day we learned that our Master Drum Coach’s son had to have emergency surgery:
The Show Must Go On…
While Our Master Drum Coach and Event Coordinator’s youngest son was laying in a hospital being prepped for an emergency Appendectomy, they prepared students and their family’s for a performance on the Dell Diamond.
“The family’s were supportive, and even offered that we didn’t have to do the show – but canceling wasn’t an option. ‘Drum Therapy’ had gotten me through many things as a kid, and it was just what was needed.” – Ed Francis, Drum Coach.
The students and their family’s helped to set up over 50 pieces of equipment on to a million dollar field – and did it in less than a minute!
The kids rocked the stadium as the team’s mascot even danced while the Jumbo-Tron captured huge images of our performance.
Breaking everything down took less than a minute, and we are glad to report that not a blade of the million-dollar grass was injured during the performance!
